Shayden Raognal :: Madness

This is one of many planned references for the various Gods and Goddesses from my Tanathia universe. This is Shayden Raognal- the Tanathian God of madness. He's one of my favorites, in terms of design. Those are black feathers tied to the ends of his hair, in case they're too difficult to make out.  

Series Rundown: In a realm, distant in every way from the world we know now, there is a land- forged from the celestial bodies beyond and ravaged by war and pain. Yet even still, full of beauty and enchantment. Among its sullied history lies the stories of the, once living, entities that now strike hope and terror into the hearts of the many souls that inhabit this land. They are the Gods and Goddesses worshiped, from love or from fear, by those enlightened enough to believe they exist. And exist- they most certainly do.

Divinity Rundown: The divinity spirits mostly consist of souls that were created by the Great Goddess- Acora, and given life. Their lives were molded, in such a way that they would fully understand their "element." When finally, they were ready; their spirits were torn from their mortal bodies and made divine. Through the use of prophets and seers, they were all given life to the world of the living. Not all Tanathian's have embraced the truths of their existence; in fact, many don't believe in them. Those that do, often honor them and try not to arouse their fury. To maintain order, Acora split the divinities into two sides- the light and the dark. The spirits of life and death were appointed to oversee the divinities on each side. Many of the divinities are merely representatives of their "element," they rarely impact the feelings and fortunes of the living. They have both the power and authority to do so, and sometimes use it, if they desire. There are 10 divinities on Tanathia that were not created in the same way as the others- they are the elementals, the creators of the planet.    

Personality: Shayden is a man of few pleasures. He is a scholar by nature- always aiming to learn more about his world. He is the 4th divinity to be created; and as such, is quite old. In life, he was a nomad and philosopher- often referred to as "the black prophet." He dabbled in necromancy, which greatly angered the Lord of the dead. As punishment for his arrogance, Shayden's eyes were scorched with lye. He has been blind ever since. But his inner sight has always been keen- he can still see the world around him; just not as others see it. To cover his deformity, he wears a half skull mask. He prefers to be left alone (which is why he is one of the few dark divinities to chose not to reside in the dark realm- a castle built by Awron to house the dark Gods and Goddesses). When he does speak, he is often quiet. He is good natured, with a great desire to help those around him, supposing he's not too caught up in something else.     

The God of Madness: Shayden has the power to drive men to madness- even to pull them from the brink, but he rarely needs to- as men have madness already in them. His followers often use white, gray, and black as his ceremonial colors. His sacred animals are the opossum and the albatross. His sacred items are feathers (often black, white, or gray) and leather straps. His symbol is called the "Lew Ma." It's the symbol on the lower right hand side of his information scroll (above).
